New Cannon and Explosion Sounds (V.3.5 now out featuring new fife and drums, marching effects and more!)

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Thank you for your efforts.

Game sounds are really important to contributing to the feeling of being there.

I have tried to test listen to your sound files before putting them in to the game.

I can't open the battle1, 2, 3 files, but can open the copies of each of the files.

The volume of the battle1, 2 and 3 copy files seems a bit low in relation to the other sound files.

I am quite interested and curious about the real sounds that the different types of civil war ordinance made when fired, and the sounds that the projectiles made as they moved through the air and then impact or air burst.

Your parrott sound file has the distinct sound of a breech being opened and a cartridge being ejected, but I don't know if the parrott munition had a ejectable cartridge. Don't think so.

This link has been very helpful.

And the sound file of the projectile passing overhead, while exciting, seems to be for a modern projectile travelling at a greater velocity than a civil war projectile.Could be wrong.

The problem is that there aren't a lot of videos available of civil war ordinance where the sound quality is good enough to copy and put in the game.

So again, I appreciate your efforts.

Thanks for the comments guys,

Rudy Ill check the files again, although they seem to work fine my end, ill re-upload them, perhaps something got corrupted in the process.

I can change out the parrot sound, yes i noticed the "jingle" of a spent cartridge, but chose that sound as it had the nice noise of a cannon ball or shell after the bang. TBH in game you cant really hear the other part, but im always on the lookout for good samples, so stay tunned ;)

**edit**

Checked and cleaned up files (noticed there were some errant backups in the folder) also provided an alternative "parrot" sound, just rename the NSDparrot2.wav to NSDparrot if you prefer it over the original.

Trouble is the sound you'd hear would be completely different depending on where the gun was and which direction it was firing relative to you.

The sounds can't be modeled accurately so it really comes down to what sounds good in game -- it's subjective.

Good sound on this one, although there is a bit of gunner chatter.

The projectile makes ssssss sound, like air coming out of a balloon.

And there seems to always be a Bong sound with brass cannons.

Ok guys just so you can hear how the sounds work in game here is a video preview. You can hear both the cannon fire and the new musket sounds (Note the Canister effects right at the end).

Nice finds rudy (especially the first one, may have to use that.)

This one has a good "KABOOM" for a 3" ordnance cannon
