Again, my thanks to everyone who tried to help. The old files, which worked just fine on Windows 8.0, were corrupt, so they didn't work on 8.1. It was necessary to dump the old files entirely and start from scratch. I hope this helps others who may be struggling with Windows 8.1.

Thank you very much! It was exactly the case that the SOW files from Windows 8 were corrupted. A fresh reinstall after completely dumping the old files has restored the game . Now I have only to download the mods.

My machine is a true 64 bit; it was originally a Vista that has seen 2 online upgrades. I will continue to play around with various possible downloads & see what I can come up with.

I have already tried compatibility mode, with no results. I'm not a techie, so I am ignorant of how to perform the other operations, A very strange note is that I installed the TC2M game & it works fine!

Yes, the problem for me is & always has been finding the working original mod. Where might I find it? I still have TC2M.

I am about to renew my Windows Platform to eliminate registry problems. Is there still a requirement to deactivate the game, & if so, how do I do it?

I'm running the 1.6 version of the game. Is there any easy correction method for this problem? Do I need to reinstall everything?
